WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE A STAND FOR THE TONGASS?

The Amazon is burning and wildfires rage across the West, and yet, in the midst of the climate crisis, Trump has directed the US Forest Service to strip protections for millions of acres of the Tongass National Forest.

New science is showing that the preservation of ancient forests is one of the most impactful ways of addressing climate change, far more effective than planting young trees. The time to end clearcut logging of old-growth is NOW.

We should never forget that the Tongass is a national forest, and right now our nation faces an unprecedented threat from global climate change. We have a responsibility to protect ancient forests as natural buffers against climate change, and the Tongass is the largest carbon sink in our national forest system.

The US Forest Service needs to hear from YOU. We invite you to take the most meaningful action you can during the public process for the proposed changes to the Alaska Roadless Rule. Submitting a unique and personalized comment carries far more weight in public process than signing a form letter or a petition.
